Today is National Read Across America Day, also known as Dr. Seuss Day, a day to celebrate reading.
This day would also have been Dr. Seuss’s 112th birthday.
Schools across the country celebrate by inviting guest readers from the community to share their favorite books with students. Kids and adults are also dressing as their favorite Dr. Seuss character and doing all kinds of fun activities this week.
Today I’ll be sharing one of my family’s favorite books to read out loud, Dragons Love Tacos by Adam Rubin, to a kindergarten class in my town. I volunteered through my local United Way, an organization that also provides funding to the nonprofit I work for. I didn’t get my son’s first grade classroom, but I’ll probably sneak by to see if I can visit him as well.
I’ll leave you with a “Wordless Wednesday” image with one of my favorite Dr. Seuss quotes. You can also take a look at last year’s Dr. Seuss quote and find out more about the history of the day in this past Philanthropy Friday post.
