Back in June, I introduced you to my new puppy, Hana.
Remember this precious Wordless Wednesday pic?
A cutie for sure.
It’s amazing how much she has grown since the above picture was taken back in May.
See those long legs and lanky body? Yeah. That gives her the ability to leap tall buildings in a single bound. Or at least jump on to the porch without touching any of the stairs.
And do this:
I heard her moving around in the living room as I worked in my home office but didn’t think anything of it. I’ve learned that the sound of her clanking dog collar is similar to the silence of young children. You know something is going on if it persists.
When I’m on a business call, she likes to run past the office door with random pillows, slippers, bones and any toys she finds. Back and forth, back and forth, throughout the entire call!
Overall, she’s a very good girl. She’s been a bit skittish with people, but she’s getting better.
She is definitely reminding us what it’s like to live with a puppy.
She absolutely adores her older brothers, Kona and Kailua, who are 12 and 9 respectively. However, she has HIGH anxiety when she is without them for any amount of time. This makes it impossible to take just her to the school bus stop or for my husband to sneak away to take the other dogs to the vet without her having a little doggy panic attack.
People wonder how I can work from home with three dogs in the house. I usually note that they are all outdoor dogs, so they don’t bother me.
Lately, though, I’ve had to bring her in due to her destructive nature outside. Case in point, she’s amassing quite a collection of chewed up items on our deck:
In the past week or so, she’s pulled off a shutter from the house and part of our bulkhead. She broke a pot that once had a (very young) avocado tree in it. She’s also somehow made her way under the cover of the boys’ sandbox and pulled out two shovels, one sand toy, one sifter, one digger and a hotwheels car. Most have bite marks in them.
Oh, and my deck has small bits of colorful plastic strewn over it.
And that’s why puppies – much like toddlers – are so cute. If they weren’t, we’d just kick them out of the house.
Do you have any good puppy stories?
Hana is SO cute Jennifer we had one just like her her name was Cosmo. That type of dog is just great with kids you couldn’t have picked better. Of course Cosmo did go thru a LOT of chew toys and ate any of the kids stuffed animals if she could get her teeth on them! hehe.

They are sneaky! And, yes, the boys absolutely love Hana (and vice versa).

I love her laying on the top of the couch! Why do dogs love to lay anywhere but their comfy beds we buy them? She is a beautiful dog and oh,yes, I remember the puppy years, they are just like toddler years and thank goodness they are cute 🙂

We have 3 doggie beds. They only want to be on one if someone else is on it! At least puppies and toddlers are entertaining.
I work at home with three dogs too…and they are not outdoor dogs but I cope! They’re usually good at entertaining themselves or sleeping. I run them around outside until they get tired and then I get a good few hours of quiet time. BUT the phone calls! Instead of running around outside of my office they always spot a suspicious leaf outside and bark and bark and bark. Did I mention they’re all Beagles? Yeah, they howl. I warn anyone I’m on the phone with up front that they will probably interrupt. They are super cute though and I couldn’t live without them!

Oh, the howling! I also make that same warning when getting on the phone if they are outside. I had to excuse myself briefly from a conference call because mine were howling outside and wanted to come inside. They sound like a pack of wolves!
Oh my goodness, she’s so beautiful! And boy, do I have puppy stories. Thorin’s a bit of a lunatic. We’re doing some private training with him to work on de-escalating him when he gets into prey-drive. He’s amazingly intense. As a would-be police or military dog, we’re not much surprised by this, but he is quite a handful. I tell him all the time that he’s lucky he’s so good looking. 😉

Huskies can get pretty intense when we get near any small animal. I usually hand over the leash to my husband anytime there are squirrels around! Good luck with the training.
I have dozens of puppy stories given we foster – and I have seen a “chewer” or two in my day! This is the second post today I have read about dogs – and I have a foster post that I am going to publish next week – yes- another way people can help the sandy victims in my area!

Very cool. Our oldest dog is from the local shelter. They do a wonderful job rescuing animals from down south. Ones that would otherwise be euthanized. They made a few trips after Katrina to save several dogs. Looking forward to your post!
Ha! I totally agree. They’re so cute so they can survive to adulthood!!!

Our parents probably say the same thing about us! 🙂
