As you may remember from a past post, Save the Children and the Frontline Health Workers Coalition launched The REAL Awards last year, an award that celebrates the selfless work of health workers around the globe.
From the doctor in Kentucky who made sure her patients got the care they needed even after a tornado hit her agency to the doctor in Nigeria who is making maternal health care a top priority at all levels of Nigerian society, these health workers are making a big difference in the world.
It’s time to nominate the next round of REAL Award winners! Nominations are going on now until October 25, 2013.Voting will occur from October 26 until December 20. The honorees will be announced on or after January 11, 2014.
We all have a health worker in our lives that has made a difference. I think of my good friend who is a dedicated oncology nurse and am thankful that there are people so caring in my community. I will always have fond memories of the nurse who was by my side during my first child birth experience.
Through the REAL Awards, health workers both in the United States and around the world will be celebrated, acknowledged and awarded for their tireless work to help others. Here is a description of the awards from the website:
The REAL Awards was created to celebrate the work of a truly deserving group of people; healthcare workers who are saving lives every day around the world. For some of us, healthcare workers are available close to home, whenever we need them, but for many others, they are a scarce and distant resource. However, we all benefit from their extraordinary dedication to keeping our families and communities healthy.
The REAL Awards is your opportunity to honor a health worker who has inspired you. Nominate someone today, then spread the word about their lifesaving work by sharing their inspiring stories with your social networks.
You can nominate the following types of health workers:
- Nurses
- Nurse practitioners
- Doctors
- Midwives
- Hospice workers
- Pharmacists
- Physician assistants
- Community health workers
- Public health officers
Nominate a health worker or share this post with someone who has an inspiring health worker in their life.
You can also take some real action by telling your Member of Congress that you care about the work of health workers around the world, telling your friends about The REAL Awards via your social network and sending a thank you to a health worker who inspires you.
Who will you nominate for a REAL Award?
