I will fully admit that I texted my husband as recent as last Thursday that I was going to sell our puppy, Hana, on Craigslist. She was under the deck again. Stuck. For, like, the gazillionth time (if you use Biz’s measure of time).
I don’t understand why she hasn’t learned that she needs to be rescued – sometimes dramatically if it happens right after a blizzard – when she goes through this minute space under the stairs of our deck.
Just last night she ate the tops of the beautiful purple tulips G picked out for me for Easter. The couch was strewn with tulip petals.
When she’s not in trouble, she seems to be on the couch. I have tons of photos of her lounging on our leather couch. When did that happen? We never let dogs on the couch before Hana.
She’s cute. And she’s a puppy. She gets away with stuff, and her big brothers know it. They are smart.
There was a time when Kailua made it a point to remind Hana that her head fit perfectly in his mouth. He can still get it in there if/when he wants. Luckily, he shows restraint with his feisty little sister.
Because though she’s quite cute, she’s also quite the instigator. I’ve heard here growl louder than Kailua. And Kailua has a deep, menacing growl.
Despite the destruction and her mischievous ways, we still love her. We know she’ll eventually grow out of the puppy stage. She keeps her older brothers, at 10 and 12, alert and active. And at the end of the day, when she calms down and is ready to relax, she’s always ready to cuddle.
She is sweet and affectionate and keeps me company on those late nights during tax season when my husband isn’t around and her brothers are outside.
I think we’ll keep her.
For now.
Unless I keep finding her like this.
Happy first birthday, Hana. We’re happy to have you in our lives.
oh, look at those muddy feet…lol
You should have seen the bathtub after I cleaned her up!
We had a dog just like her, they could have been twins. She thought she was a cat, she used to eat mice and rabbits and then vomit them up on the living room rug. I think it’s the breed, they are kinda lacking in sense when they’re young but they get smarter. Cosmo our white lab was the best and smartest dog we ever had. She was also the best with the kids, very protective!
Oh no! That sounds horrible. Hana is actually an Alaskan husky Eurohound mix, so it’s hard to tell what’s “normal” for her. Her parents are racing sled dogs, so I know where she gets her energy!
Ha ha ha! That last picture is HILARIOUS! She is so totally looking at you like “what is the problem mom?”…love it! :)-The Dose Girls
She had an absolute ball in the mud! She’s a digger, which doesn’t bode well for my garden. Ugh.
How adorable?! This so makes me miss out little doggie (or big boxer doggie). I think Hana is a keeper, too.
We got her partly because the other two are getting older. She definitely livens things up!
You know I can’t resist a dog – any dog – even a puppy. Our fosters have eaten up the Barbie dolls and escaped from our yard – and even though I’ve threatened the Craig’s List thing, like you, I would never. Happy Birthday Hana!
Oh, Kona and Kailua have their owns set of stories from when they were puppies. I can’t imagine Barbies would last long in this house. Kona once destroyed a Mr. Potato Head. We came home to body (face?) parts strewn everywhere!
I love that last picture – it’s wonderful!
I also love the dogs – they’re really cute and they have ways of wiggling into your life and driving you nuts but then you fall so in love with them. 🙂
Awesome stuff!
…and I really need a new puppy. 🙂
When I opened the door to that, I just had to take a picture. She was so muddy, all I could do was laugh. You really can’t help but fall in love. She had a ball getting that messy.
And, yes, you totally need a new puppy. 🙂
Both of your dogs are adorable! Love the mud picture. Sure you were not so crazy about that! We are slowly starting to get puppy fever… these pics did not help!!
Three dogs! They are all pretty cute. And, like Cyndi, you should totally get a puppy!
Oh my gosh that last picture is HILARIOUS and so adorable!!!! So you have THREE dogs? Oh dear… hat’s off to you my friend!!! 🙂
Yes. 5 “kids” in all. 6 if you count my husband. 🙂 This is why I insisted on getting a girl puppy. Everyone else in this house is male!
Oh Hana, thee of the muddy paws!!
Happy 1st Birthday!
She says thanks! Hopefully we won’t see muddy paws like that again for a while. The snow finally melted and the mud is mostly gone now. Fingers crossed!
Aw! Happy Birthday to your sweet, mischeivious puppy! Dogs are the best!
Thanks, Raquel. Dogs are the best….even when they get into trouble!
