I am not one who has any interest in shopping on Black Friday.
Who am I kidding? I’m not one who enjoys shopping on any day of the week.
Shopping is just not my thing. I’d rather be outside playing in nature.
I am, however, a bit proponent of shopping with a conscience. So much so, I dedicated an entire chapter of my book, Simple Giving: Easy Ways to Give Every Day, to the subject.
What shopping with a conscience comes down to is stopping to think how your purchases impact the world around you. Do you know where the products were made? Are the workers paid fairly? What is the environmental impact? Who benefits from your purchase? Is the company ethical?
I’m not sure how many people are thinking about ethical shopping on Black Friday, but I hope at least a few are. Following is my Gifts That Give Back guide. Everything on this list gives back in some way when you make a purchase. While I update it on a regular basis, I like to remind my readers of its existence this time of year.
On the biggest shopping day of the year, please consider shopping more consciously. You’ll find plenty of ideas by scrolling through this list.
And don’t forget about Small Business Saturday. One of the easiest ways to shop with a conscience is to support your local merchants by shopping locally.
Simple giving. I hope it’s a concept that continues to catch on.
And if you have any products or websites to add to the list, please do so below the list by adding a suggestion.
Will you be shopping today?
