I’m not one to actually shop on Black Friday. I tried it once, and I immediately regretted it. I was up far too early and people were lined up around the block waiting to get into the stores. If I remember correctly, I made it into the store and didn’t even find what I wanted. I was tired, annoyed and just wanted to be alone for the rest of the day.
Instead of shopping, I typically spend my Friday after Thanksgiving in Massachusetts celebrating my son’s birthday. He was born on Black Friday; my best one yet. His grammy will let him decorate a cake with ridiculous amounts of candy. I generally veg out throughout the day enjoying some very rare down time.
On the blog, I like to share my Gifts That Give Back list as a reminder that if you are going to buy gifts on the biggest shopping day of the year, you might as well buy stuff that is going to help others. These gifts might not be the cheapest, but they do make the biggest impact. It’s a spectacular way to shop with a conscience, the third giving model in my book Simple Giving: Easy Ways to Give Every Day.
I update this list frequently and just recently moved it over to Listly to make it easier to curate and share. As always, please add any products or websites you think might be a good addition to the list.
I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving!
