I skipped vlogging last week and kind of missed it. So I’m back talking about one of my favorite subjects, charity.
Though I will say that I’m not a big fan of the word charity. It seems to have a negative connotation. I think “needy” and “helpless” when I hear the word charity. I prefer to use the terms donating to a nonprofit or a cause. (Am I alone in this thinking?)
This week, I’m responding to the Mama Kat’s prompt: 2.) Tell us about one of your favorite charities.
If you know me, you know that coming up with one favorite charity is difficult. Since starting my Giving Pledge over a year ago, I’ve given to many nonprofits for many different reasons. It’s been an interesting experience.
But if I had to choose one charity nonprofit to talk about, I can pick one. Watch and see who I chose.

Do you have a favorite charity?
A giving pledge is a great idea. Whether it is time or money it is always a good idea. Not familiar with Crossroads. Have to look into it.
Agreed, Miriam. The pledge helps me keep giving top of mind.
You are definitely getting awesome at this vlogging thing! I can say I knew you when! CrossRoads sounds like a great organization to give to. You inspired me to do a vlog today, by the way, in which I talk about my own favorite charity, but some of my other faves are local here – Sister Care – provides shelter and food for battered women and children, Molly Bears which you have featured, St. Jude’s, Special Olympics, Harvest Hope Food Bank, and our local children’s homes. I need to make more money so I can give more away!!!
Love that your focus is philanthropy and to find someone else who really enjoys giving back!
Thanks, Alexa! Those are some great charities to support. I don’t give a ton of money, but I do what I can. We’ve realized that we can give more than we thought, which is great.
Oh, and your first vlog was great!
Great Advice! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching, Sandee.
Crossroads sounds like a great charity! I do like to do a little research before I give money to a charity to make sure the money is going to the right places.
I have too many charities that I support, and I wish I could give tons of money to them, but unfortunately am only in the position to give a little each year. One of my friend’s daughters had diabetes, and so I support JRDF.
I’m also a supporting blogger for Army of Woman, which is not exactly a charity but a research organization. They are trying to find the cause of breast cancer, rather than a cure, which is a personal cause of mine.
Thanks for sharing your causes, Ginny. I always want to give more, but sometimes just talking / raising awareness about causes is just as helpful.
I have had many charities over the years that I have given to.
I like your focus and will consider that in the near future when I am in a better position to do so.
I support Amer. Diabetes Association-I have type 2 and my d-i-l has type1
Relay For Life-they support all people with all sorts of cancers (there are several family who have fought cancer)
Although, I have not given $ to them, I support the Cochlear Foundation and Working Dogs Foundations-I am 95% deaf and received a cochlear several years ago. I am currently looking to get a hearing dog.
I am going to look up your organization.
Great vlog this week.
Come by.

That’s great, Naila. There are so many ways to support your charities, through donating money, volunteering, advocating, etc. My amounts aren’t huge, but I figure I’ll increase amounts as I’m able.
Love your Vlogging as usual! I love the animal rescue I work with and they are one of my favorite non profits. I also love a local charity called RAINE that does a lot of good locally – and there is total transparency where the money goes to – so important like you said!
It really is important. I’ve worked alongside some nonprofits that have had questionable accounting practices. You really want to know you’re putting your money in a good place.
One of my other favorite nonprofits is the shelter where we got our oldest dog, Kona. Since he’s a Siberian husky and “talks” I tried to get him to talk to the camera and tell people to support the Coastal Humane Society. Alas, he’s 12 and was not in the mood!
I love all that you do for charity…er…nonprofit work! My internet is running on the slow side today so I couldn’t watch the video, but I find the “giving pledge” a cool and interesting concept. Will look into that more. 😀
Awesome, Cyndi. The pledge has been a fun experience.
Crossroads sounds like a wonderful cause to contribute to Jennifer! Since I took your pledge, our women’s group has been doing dinners that focus on one organization or person in need. We did a Sandy relief effort and raised 700 bucks! We also hosted an amazing woman ( Name of her Organization: Eyes Wide Open) who created an orphanage and runs it in Haiti. Powerful story with her- she and her husband saw the devastation after the hurricane and decided to change the course of their entire life and go. A year ago, her husband was shot dead in Haiti. She continues to push forward saving the lives of children with strength she can only get from God. I thought of sharing her story with you and having you maybe post about her on your blog. If you are interested- I will get you more info!!
Great job with your pledge, Chris. That’s awesome! I would love to hear more of your friend’s story. Email me!
