Last week, I got an email from my husband suggesting our March donation. (And, yes, we’re primarily communicating through email and text these days due to tax season.)
I thought it was pretty cool that he’s a. thinking about who we should be donating to each month and b. offering suggestions.
We’ve talked about giving more in the past, but we never had much of a plan. Now that we’ve pledged to give each month, it seems like philanthropy is more top of mind.
This month we gave to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in support of a cute little girl named Mamie whose dad, Don, is a client of my husband. Mamie was diagnosed cystic fibrosis (CF), a devastating genetic disease that affects tens of thousands of children and young adults in the US. Visit the Team Mamie home page
Research and care supported by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is making a big difference in extending the quality of life for those with CF, but lives are still lost every day. According to the foundation’s website, the median age of survival for those diagnosed with CF is in the late 30s. Read more about CF
Each year, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation holds its biggest fundraiser of the year, the Great Strides walk. Walks happen all over the country. Through the walks, they were able to raise nearly $38 million last year. My local Great Strides walk will be held at St. Pius X Church – 492 Ocean Avenue in Portland, Maine on May 19th. I’m hoping to have the whole family out for the walk in support of Mamie and others affected by CF. Find a Great Strides walk near you
We gave because of our connection to Mamie and because we hope that others would do the same for us if our kids were fighting a disease like CF.
Who did you give to this month and why?
