Is it really March?

jennifer · March 22, 2012 · 7 Comments

I’m just going to preface this post by reminding you that I live in Brunswick, Maine.
So, let’s recap the day.
I drove my son to school, who was wearing shorts, with the sunroof open.
I put the outdoor furniture on the deck and worked on my iPad in the sun.
It was 80 degrees as I ate my lunch on my back porch.
I was hot. (I am always cold.)
My Siberian huskies roasted themselves in the sun and required extra water. They are shedding heavily.
We had to break the fans out for the third floor, so my kids won’t roast when they sleep tonight.
There’s a food cart out on the Brunswick Mall, but the benches and trash cans aren’t out yet.
After picking up my son from the school bus, we walked (I walked, G biked) the 2 miles or so to pick up my younger son from daycare.
There are signs like this on Maine Street right now.

cool down sign
Mainer's aren't often enticed to "cool down" in March.

winter boots sale
At least winter boots are 1/2 off!

It’s March 22, 2012.
Whaaat?
I have to think that this warm, beautiful weather won’t last. Though I’ve opened the sandbox and broken out some outdoor furniture, I still refuse to put the snow shovel and boots away.
It is, in fact, still Maine. And March.
How’s the weather where you are?

Me too! I think it’s going to be, like, 40 next week. I just hope we don’t get any more snow this season. (not that we got much in the first place.)

I have cleaned the garden beds, removed the sand from the driveway and inside the garage, washed my car, bought new chairs for the deck, went to the beach on Sunday, had lunch open air, am drinking ice coffee or ice tea….it feels just to good! It is not a dream….the only two things that are ruining my positive spring mood are: the idea that it won’t last for long (just for the short period) and the mosquitoes, flies, bugs of any sort, ticks….they are back, too!

You’ve been busy, Linda! I haven’t come across the bugs yet, but I’m hearing the mosquitoes are already out. There are lots of flowers coming up now. I’m hoping they don’t get killed with the cold weather we’re bound to have before full spring comes into play. Enjoying while I can now. 🙂

Yeah, last week’s weather was pretty wacky. I was working outside on Wednesday and was sweating like crazy! What’s sad is now that more seasonable weather is here, it feels cold!!! 50’s should be warm!!!

So true. It got down in the high 30s/ low 40s today here, and I was freezing! Such crazy weather, though I guess you have to expect it in New England.
