Black Friday. Small Business Saturday. Cyber Monday. It continues to be a long weekend of consumerism.
Now that the mountains of flyers for the post-Thanksgiving sales are in the recycling, my inbox is filled with news of all the online deals being offered for Cyber Monday.
While I did shop around a few local shops in Maine yesterday, I have yet to buy a Christmas present.
I’ve barely recovered from Thanksgiving, and my little one is turning 3 tomorrow. I’m just not ready for holiday shopping.
I find it curious that the one thing I was going to buy for my kids is now 2 – 3 times more expensive than it was last Wednesday.
I think the Sunday after Thanksgiving should be called Serenity Sunday. It should be a day where we stop, take a deep breath and recover from the holiday. We should stay in our pajamas for most of the morning, sip coffee and talk about the fun that Christmas will bring in a few weeks.
Today, I will be taking down the Thanksgiving/Fall decorations and taking out the Christmas decorations. I’ll be watching football, catching up on laundry and thinking about my son’s birthday tomorrow.
We’ll get the decorations up some time next week. Shopping will come. Eventually.
For now, we need a little serenity.
