Minted.com describes itself as “the world’s premiere marketplace for crowd-sourced independent design and art.” Their mission is to find exceptional artists and designers all over the world and bring their work to consumers who appreciate great design. Cool, right?
As you start thinking about holiday cards (eek!) this year, consider supporting artists and designers who may not have the ability to sell their work through traditional retailers. Minted’s beautiful holiday photo cards are a great alternative to the typical online photo sites that seem to offer the same boring designs year after year. (Seriously, it takes me forever to find a design that I like and they all look the same to me!)
Minted offers high quality products that celebrate life’s most important events, including holiday cards, wedding invitations, framed art, party décor, and other personal stationery.
The cool part is that the designs you see on the Minted website are from artists curated by the Minted community. Artists and aspiring designers from around the world have their work featured and sold on Minted when they win open design challenges on the website.
I like the Minted Manifesto:
“Allow the best designs to surface based on community interaction and not based on where a designer was educated, what type of capital or connections they have, or anything besides the pure quality of a design as judged by the community. We think this is the future of retail.”
Minted has been holding monthly design challenges since 2008. According to their website, 114 challenges have been held with over 100,000 designs submitted and more than 8 million votes cast.
If you’re a designer, you can submit designs to their regular challenges. If you like to look at pretty things, you can vote.
Or you can just do some shopping and support independent designers from all over the globe.
Will you get Minted this year?
