OK, don’t take that question too far. Let’s face it. Sometimes, you might not want to know where your money has been.
But if you really did want to know, there’s a way to track bills online on Where’s George?
The other day, I received a $1 bill as change at a parking garage in the Old Port (in Portland, Maine). There was a website stamped on it. The stamp said “track @www.wheresgeorge.com.” Of course, I had to visit.
I have heard about a website that you could track money around the country, but I had never received a bill with the stamp on it before. After signing up for a free account, I entered the serial number of my bill, indicated its condition and where I received it. Then, I got a history of where my dollar has traveled.
Since my dollar was fairly new, I was only the 3rd person to handle it. Apparently, it started at Shaw’s in Windham, ME and made its way to a parking garage in Portland, where I received it as change. I took it back to Brunswick, where I live. According to the report, the bill had traveled 32 Miles in 36 Days, 4 Hrs, 47 Mins at an average of 0.89 miles per day.
Once you log a bill into the website, you can follow its travels. Not long after I logged the bill, the person at the parking garage commented that it was the fastest he’s seen someone log a bill and that he remembered the person he gave it to.
How cool is that? Check out the website.
