DIY Artwork for Decorating Your Home

March 8, 2011 By anotherjennifer 3 Comments

I love art. I love to surround myself with items I deem as art. Anything that moves me. Inspires me.

The problem is that I can’t always afford to buy the art and well-designed items I want. When this happens, I improvise.

Sometimes, the best art is what you create yourself.

Here are some examples of the things I’ve put together to decorate my home.

I created a series of three acrylic paintings on canvas that hang above my bed when I couldn't find artwork that was the right color or size.

I took two frames I found on sale and added extra material from panels we hung as a room divider. The framed material looks good and ties together two rooms in our house.

One of my favorite DIY decorating tricks is to take images I like from magazines and decoupage them onto light switch covers. This image came from a Design Within Reach catalog. I also like to use old advertisements from vintage magazines.

I made a free table I inherited back when I was first living on my own more appealing by taking various magazine ads, stickers and other interesting items and decoupaging them to the top.

My husband and son made this piece of artwork with the extra wooden slats from an IKEA window treatment. They did a simple basketweave, which we hung in our guest room.

What creative things have you done in your home? Please share.

I’m looking for more ideas!

Nice idea and the painting was very good. I like mostly first and second because I love their pattern and color.
